DEPUTIES are unlikely to support a vote of no confidence in Health and Social Services, the politician who has placed the motion conceded yesterday.

But Mike Hadley believes islanders are firmly behind him in his effort to hold the department to account for recent failings.

Deputy Hadley's confidence motion will be debated by the Assembly during the meeting which started today.

Signed by six other deputies, the requete states that the HSSD minister consistently said money for bowel cancer screening had been spent when a 'quick look' at the outline financial case in the business plan would have shown it could not have been.

The signatories also believed that HSSD minister Mark Dorey misled the Assembly during his speech prior to his election as minister, just over a year ago, when he vowed to 'maximise efficiency and to ensure spending was kept under control, without affecting front-line services'.

Speaking yesterday Deputy Hadley said: 'I am not confident I will get the backing of States deputies, but I do feel I have I have got the support of a lot of people in Guernsey.'
