Winds will be force seven to eight, with gusts predicted to hit force nine.

The dismal forecast came as emergency work continued yesterday to clear floodwater.

'We are forecast a fair amount of rain,' a Met Office spokesman said. 'Today there is a risk of thunder with squally rain and hail showers.

'The risk of thunder lasts through until Sunday and there will be constant rain until at least Wednesday.'
