No talks until demands are met, say Condor strikers

STRIKE action by French Condor crews will not stop until their demands are met, their union has threatened.

The 'unannounced industrial action' on the company's St Malo service follows demands for an investigation into ferry safety and working conditions by CGT, the French union of seafarers.

'We will not even meet Condor Ferries unless they give us proof beforehand that they will give their French seamen salaries and social protection which is due to them under French law,' said Laure Tallonneau, an inspector for umbrella body the International Transport Workers' Federation.

All of today's sailings between the Channel Islands and the port have been cancelled, although Condor has attributed this to adverse weather conditions rather than the ongoing dispute.

'I apologise to our guests who have been inconvenienced by this unannounced industrial action which is affecting islanders' ferry services to St Malo,' said CEO James Fulford.
