Sacked for having baby, claims ex-hire car rep

A YOUNG mother has claimed that a hire car company sacked her because she had a baby. Claire Dent, 21, told an employment tribunal her bosses at Harlequin Hire Cars Ltd, trading as Europcar Guernsey, said they could not keep her job available because the firm did not have a maternity leave policy.

But managing director Guy Plante denied her claims, insisting that Miss Dent terminated her employment.

Miss Dent, who is claiming unfair dismissal by way of sexual discrimination, said: 'If this had not happened to me, it would have happened to someone else.

'If I had not been pregnant I would still be working there. There is no doubt about that at all.'

The MD said there was never any animosity between the company and Miss Dent and it had offered her a job in August when a post became available.
