Parents asked to move pupils to schools with spaces

HUNDREDS of parents are being asked to consider sending their children to undersubscribed schools.

Education yesterday sent out more than 300 letters to parents of children due to start in September, as some schools had very small classes, but others had reached capacity.

Notre Dame du Rosaire Catholic Primary School was significantly oversubscribed, it said.

Director of education Alan Brown said it would be asking parents living near schools with spare capacity – La Houguette, Hautes Capelles and Amherst – to see whether they wanted to make the switch.

He also denied the disparity in class sizes was in any way connected to the States decision last year to close St Andrew's Primary and St Sampson's Infants.

'I would like to confirm that this process is not connected to the redistribution of pupils living in the former St Andrew's catchment,' said Mr Brown.

'We are in the final stages of confirming pupil placements and are on schedule to be writing to St Andrew's parents within the next few weeks to confirm their child's school place for either September 2014 in the case of Reception and current Year 4 pupils and their siblings, or September 2015 for all other pupils.'
