POTHOLES are an increasing problem on the roads, users and parish constables have said.

The recent spate of bad weather has led to a return of the bone-rattling conditions of a year ago.

Guernsey Velo Club president Gary Wallbridge, pictured, said one of its members had fallen off their bike after hitting a bad pothole, and it was particularly dangerous for cyclists at night.

While until now a defender of the condition of roads, in recent months his opinion has had to change.

'Suddenly bits of the road are really deteriorating and are not being fixed quickly enough. PSD tell me to call with where they are, but to my mind they are increasing.'

St Peter Port constable Dennis Le Moignan agreed that the recent appalling weather meant the road surfaces could be expected to deteriorate.
