The working men's pub in Braye Road, Vale, officially closed last night, but a special send-off was organised on Friday night with a party and disco.

Tony Smyth and Karin Leale have run the bar for the last four years and Mr Smyth said they had been very happy there.

'We have made some really good friends,' he said.

'It is not really about us – it is about the locals. Many have been really loyal customers.'

He said he had mixed emotions about the closure.

'Times are changing and how the public drinks is changing. While Randalls is closing it, they have bought another pub – the Drunken Duck.'

Mr Smyth and Ms Leale will be moving to the Drunken Duck in La Charroterie at the end of March.
