Chief minister pledges better access to States information

A NEW era has been signalled today as the success – or otherwise – of the States information code begins to be measured.

The policy was agreed last July and has already been used sporadically by some departments when releasing reports or deciding to withhold information from the public.

It sets out under what circumstances answers will, or will not, be given to people, but stops short of the legislation introduced in other democracies.

Chief Minister Jonathan Le Tocq, pictured, offered his full support to the code.

'We've got to draw a line under the past and improve moving forward,' he said.
