No airport cash lost as Flybe closes its base

AIRPORT revenues will not be hit by Flybe's withdrawal of its local base, its director has confirmed.

The airline pulled out of the island on Saturday, meaning its planes will no longer be left in Guernsey overnight.

Airport director Colin Le Ray, pictured, said there would be minimal impact from the change.

'Normally we charge for aircraft parking for more than two hours, but we've never applied charges for aircraft staying overnight because we didn't want to dissuade people from leaving aircraft here,' he said.

'From a service point of view, there is a benefit from having aircraft based in Guernsey because if there is poor visibility you can take off in poorer visibility than you can land, so it's an advantage to have aircraft here.

'Fiscally, there is no change resulting from the withdrawal but, operationally, in poor visibility there is a greater risk of delay on the schedule.'

Flybe was not immediately available to comment.
