Our transport strategy is balanced, says minister

POLITICIANS should support Environment's transport strategy and not the minority report because it is fairer on islanders and is balanced, the minister has said.

Deputy Roger Domaille, pictured, has defended criticism that the department's strategy has not gone far enough.

He believes a minority report, put forward by board members Yvonne Burford and Barry Brehaut, is calling for too much change all at once.

While many aspects of the two reports are similar, key differences include the minority report proposing paid parking, a reduction in fuel duty and subsidies for small, low emission and electric vehicles.

The majority report, however, proposes an increase in fuel duty of 5%.

Deputy Domaille said the reason his report did not include paid parking was because it would penalise Town workers.
