More than a dozen local runners travelled to the capital to get involved in the 26-mile event.

That included trust worker Mel Bichard, 52. She had aimed to complete the run in four hours and 30 minutes, so was shocked when she crossed the line at four hours and 56 seconds.

George Jennings, 56, was also taking part his daughter Rachael, 28.

This was Mr Jennings eighth London Marathon and he has pledged that it would be his last: 'I finished in just over five hours, which was a bit slower than I expected.'
