The Dandelion Project was launched last month by some friends, including Jon Pettitt, 39, Philip Smith, 34, and Marc Winn, 37.

Since then its Facebook page has received more than 1,200 likes and the organisers said they were aware of about 30 projects under way.

The aim of the group is to encourage islanders to use their skills and their passions to work to improve their island.

Mr Pettitt said the friends had realised that while Guernsey was a good place to live, they all felt that everyone could do something to make it great. 'The idea is not about the six of us,' he said. 'It is about inspiring the community to create the sort of place they want to be living in.'

The scope of the project is likely to cover all aspects of island life, such as healthcare, education or transport – anything islanders feel they can improve.
