Renewed appeal to move memorials

STATES Property Services has issued another appeal to try to find islanders who may have left tributes in a landscaped area at Le Foulon Cemetery.

It is asking that anyone who put items in the area, which is in the centre of the garden of rest, to get in touch. A previous appeal met with very little success.

The area is to have a makeover and will be re-landscaped as a number of plants need to be replaced. But States Property Services grounds manager Nigel Le Sauvage said a number of memorial plants, plaques or vases had to be removed so they were not damaged.

'A number of memorials have been left at the plantation without permission, so we have no record of who might have left or planted them there,' he said. 'We very much appreciate how important the tributes are.'

He said the department was making every effort to contact those involved. The tributes will be put back or moved to another area. The new landscaping will see a grass seating area in the middle with a circular seat around a tree.

Work is due to start on Monday 28 April. Anybody who left a tribute, or knows somebody who has should call Mr Le Sauvage on 717000.
