Fellow jewellers' disgust at N. St J. Paint raid
TOWN jewellers have expressed their disgust after thousands of pounds-worth of items were taken from a fellow business in its second smash and grab in four years.
Police have renewed appeals for witnesses after a lone burglar used a pickaxe to smash the window of N. St J. Paint & Sons Jewellers, Pollet, on Good Friday.
Derek Birch and Sons owner Mike Birch was devastated for the family-run Paint business, which was also targeted in 2010 when burglars used a sledgehammer to steal £200,000-worth of goods.
It is still unknown how much was taken in the latest incident, but items stolen include diamond rings and necklaces.
Rocks manager Danny Gallienne could not believe the shop had been targeted again.
Guernsey Goldsmiths manager Jess Guille, whose shop is opposite Paints, said the attack was worrying.
Police are keen to identify a potential witness who was seen walking into the cashpoint area of Lloyds Bank just after 4:30am, when the burglary is believed to have occurred.
If anyone believes that this could be them or if any person has knowledge of who that individual could be, they are asked to contact CID.
Crimestoppers has offered a reward of up to £1,000 for any information leading to a conviction and the Paint family has offered more than £1,000 for information leading to the recovery of the stolen items.
The man police are seeking is described as 20- to 25-years-old, of slim build, about 5ft 10in. tall and wearing a black hooded top, dark jeans and trainers. He was carrying a white cloth-type bag.
