HUNDREDS of islanders welcomed the return of the JT Cobo Bay Hotel balcony gigs yesterday evening.

The gigs – which were at one time expected to end last year – kicked off with three bands performing from the balcony from 5.30pm.

The Nussbaumer family owns the Cobo Bay Hotel and had leased the neighbouring Rockmount for 47 years.

The brewery's decision not to renew the family lease cast doubt over the future of the highly popular event.

Since then, hotel owner David Nussbaumer said the popularity of the event had convinced him to keep it going for now.

'The amount of people who asked for it to carry on convinced us,' he said. 'We are going to continue this year and will review it at the end of the year.

Despite it having to be held back a day due to the weather, the gig started with a performance from The Little Big Band from Jersey, followed by a set from No Paparazzi.

But islanders were most excited to see the return of Elysium, who played a set of Pink Floyd covers along to a light and laser show.
