Rousse vandalism warning after boats are targeted

ANGRY boat owners and officials are on the lookout for 'mindless' vandals who are putting lives at risk by tampering with vessels.

Police have put fisherman and vessel owners on red alert to the damage being caused around Grand Havre and Rousse after an ex-lifeboat recently had holes made in its hull.

Rodney Norman, pictured, the special constable at Rousse harbour, said another 18ft fishing boat had also recently had holes drilled in it by vandals.

Mr Norman said the consequences of such attacks could put many people at risk.

He urged everyone in the area to be on the lookout for the culprits and where damage might have been caused.

'It is dangerous, concerning and just mindless,' he said.

'You could go out in your boat and then all of a sudden see water coming through.

'What if you are taking your children or grandchildren out for a day of fishing and suddenly see a leak? It is not very safe at all.'

His warning came as Guernsey Police's crime reduction adviser Andy Goodall warned of the potentially 'life-threatening' damage being caused to vessels.
