Thousands of pieces of protective plastic will be bolted into place over the next few months on the high-rise, which is being extensively refurbished by the Guernsey Housing Association in partnership with the Housing Department.

GHA development manager Phil Roussel said around 20% of the material had been put in place.

'We have insulation and this will protect that from rain.'

When the colour scheme was first revealed, there were worries that it was too bright.

But Mr Roussel said it had been carefully considered.

'We did look at some different colour schemes,' he said.

'Some were quite funky. There was a golden yellow one and a blue one. But green is Guernsey and the GHA and it is a fairly muted colour.

'We felt it will give the building some interest without being too in your face.'
