However, decisions on how to deal with some of the projects still need to be made.

Every corner of Guernsey felt the effects of the devastating spring storms. The Environment Department is responsible for the defences and its £77,000 annual maintenance budget was soon exhausted, leaving the departmentso it had to apply for more funding from Treasury and Resources.

A department spokesman said repairs were under way in many areas.

'The Environment Department is pleased that the programme of repairs is progressing well, but we know there is still some way to go before all works are complete,' a department spokesman said.

'The department wishes to acknowledge the technical support provided by States Property Services and thanks all the contractors who responded so quickly to what was an unprecedented amount of storm damage.'
