Lack of public interest 'shows review reforms reasonable'

A LACK of public engagement over major States reforms is a strong indication that the proposals are not 'wholly unreasonable', deputies behind the changes have said.

Two members of the States Review Committee, which came up with the proposals, Matt Fallaize and Richard Conder, said they were not deterred by the small number of people who trickled into Saturday's drop-in session at Le Friquet Garden Centre.

Committee vice-chairman Deputy Fallaize said he believed that if there was strong opposition to the plans, public feeling would have been made clear.

'We cannot say that the public on balance support the proposals, but what can be detected from the lack of organised opposition, is that they have probably not been interpreted as wholly unreasonable,' he said.

A public meeting to outline the proposals will be held tonight at Le Muirer School from 7.30pm.
