Airport security checks are stepped up amid concerns over 'stealth bomb'

PASSENGERS should not notice any delays at Guernsey Airport despite security being stepped up amid concerns emerging from the United States over a new 'stealth bomb', its deputy director has said.

After news from US officials that two terror networks in Syria and Yemen were teaming up to target flights bound for America, Ashley Nicholas said local airport security was being beefed up, but this would not have an impact on waiting times.

'The safety and security of the public is paramount. We already have robust procedures in place, but there will be some enhanced measures introduced.

'I would prefer not to disclose what they are or how long they will be in place for. Passengers are unlikely to see any delay. We resource according to passenger numbers and we do react to incidents.'

Guernsey follows UK advice on airport security, he added, and it is accredited by the Department for Transport.
