Review of Education is promised

NO ONE will escape scrutiny under a root-and-branch inspection of the Education Department that aims to drive standards and improvements, minister Robert Sillars yesterday pledged.

Deputy Sillars said the political board and all staff would be part of next year's review, as he defended the delay in bringing in independent assessors to Education.

He was addressing just one of a raft of concerns made public by schools expert Denis Mulkerrin after he announced his shock resignation from the Education board.

The Education minister also revealed that new figures showed the department had managed to cut the time taken to recruit teachers, but admitted that it was an area where improvement could still be made.
