They are three of 14 iconic Bailiwick people who feature on a new mural outside The Hideaway at Moore's Hotel, which was unveiled on Saturday.

It is the work of Cornish based artist, Janet Shearer, who specialises in trompe l'oeil or trick of the eye technique.

It refers to a style of painting where the artist creates an illusion of space and paints an apparently three dimensional image on a wall within the context of the surrounding architecture.

Sarnia Hotels managing director Karel Harris, pictured, said her father, Andre Sendlhofer, who founded the group, had planned to replace the previous mural before his death two years ago.

Mr Sendlhofer came to Guernsey more than 60 years ago from his native Austria and took over Moore's in 1956. He and his wife, Sheila, who was present at the unveiling, are featured in the mural.
