Mark Langlois of B.R. Langlois and Sons, said the company had been experiencing problems in trying to export its peppers to the UK.

It comes after the conventional ferry had to be sent to Falmouth for repairs after scraping the sea bed in the Little Russel last

Mr Langlois said the peppers were usually sent to Portsmouth where Sainsbury's collected them directly.

However, because of delays it was having to send them in bulk to an agent in Kent when possible, where they would then be distributed to the supermarket.

'I might be able to send some Monday or Wednesday but all of the peppers are just sitting in the fridge at the moment.

'We have lost a whole weekend's sales,' he said.

'I would say all this week we have lost about £5,000 and, of course, it is very frustrating.'
