MD loses tribunal appeal for cafe at Stan Brouard

EVEN a 5,000-signature petition was not enough to get approval for a cafe at Stan Brouard, as an independent planning tribunal ruled that the Landes du Marche site was too far from a rural centre to be allowed.

Managing director Rodney Brouard, pictured, has warned that the failure of the plans could affect his company's ability to support local agriculture and horticulture in future.

The Environment Department has designated L'Islet, Cobo, St Martin's, St Peter's and Forest as rural centres, which provide daily services.

Retail development outside these areas is discouraged.

It was this issue which eventually felled the appeal.

'I am disappointed,' Mr Brouard said.

'We have over 5,000 people supporting us.'

Mr Brouard tried to argue that the Landes du Marche area was an emerging rural centre, but the tribunal disagreed.
