A VITAL review of Guernsey's telecommunications and ICT services in the business sector should not be rushed, the regulator said yesterday.

The Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities has defended the speed with which it is delivering the Business Connectivity Market Review, which will help to ensure the island's telecommunications infrastructure provides resilient, quality and affordable services.

Cicra chief executive Michael Byrne, pictured, said this type of review was restricted by legal procedures and obligations that had to be met and was also complex.

He said it aimed to finish the review in the third quarter of this year, but warned that rushing and taking shortcuts could prove more time consuming in the long run.

'Being prudent is a better approach,' he said.

'Sometimes you can do it quicker but it takes you a lot longer anyway because you can be subject to appeals.'
