GST would lose us millions say travel trade

A GOODS and services tax would destroy the local travel business and drive tens of millions of pounds off-island, the chairman of the Association of Guernsey Travel Agents has warned.

The stark message from Jamie Blondel comes after weeks of sustained criticism from the island's business community against the possible introduction of GST – an option being considered, at 5%, as part of a review of future tax, pension and benefit needs.

Mr Blondel said should that happen, the local industry would collapse.
