BUS passenger numbers have increased for the first time in five years, newly released figures reveal.

Numbers peaked in 2009 with 1.6m. and have been in decline ever since.

However, the figures for the first six months of this year show a rise of nearly 20,000 journeys over the same period last year to 652,155.

In June alone, passenger numbers were up nearly a quarter over June 2013.

A spokesman for CT Plus said it had pulled out all the stops over the last year to get service reliability to the highest possible standards.
