Local students have also achieved more A* to A grades than their national counterparts – 27% as opposed to 26%.

Education minister Robert Sillars praised the hard work of the students and staff.

'I know that our students will have worked extremely hard to achieve these excellent results,' said Deputy Sillars.

'I also believe these results are a testament to the quality of teaching and support our students receive at the Sixth Form Centre and at the College of Further Education. The whole community should feel extremely proud of today's news.

'I wish all our young people well in whatever they choose to do next and know that their teachers and lecturers and staff at Careers Guernsey are on hand to provide advice and guidance for those unsure about their next steps.'

In 2013 the overall A-level pass rate was 99.5% and in 2012 99.6%. The figures do not include baccalaureate results.
