Extra effort goes in to North Show

EXTRA hard work was put in to make this year's North Show worthy of the memory of the late president, the man who took over his role said.

Simon Marquis died earlier this year aged just 35, and new president Gary Trimbee-Laine said he had done everything possible to ensure he would have been proud of this year's show.

'Simon asked me to be president last year, and we were going to do a role swap, but obviously that never happened.

'Spiritually he has pushed me along, he must be up there helping me out, because I have been pushed well outside my comfort zone.

'A year ago I would not have been doing public speaking, talking to the media, I would have shied away from it all.

'There is a lot of sadness, it is a poignant year.'
