Despite a lack of mobility in his lower body and some difficulty with his grip, Paul Diligent, 58, is already looking ahead to his next marathon adventure. He completed the 26.2-mile challenge, on Sunday, using a handbike and with the support of a team of runners around him, collectively known as 'Team Dil' .

He crossed the finish line in a time of four hours and 58 minutes, with his weaker right hand strapped to the handbike to help pull him through to the finish.

'I am just happy and relieved I have done it now,' he said.

'I have done a lot of training and it was not harder than some of those training runs.

'Some of those training runs were on hot days. It was cloudy on Sunday – better for all of us.

'I had a great team with me and that really helped.'
