'Condor said I could travel to France without passport'

A BUSINESSMAN claims he is £2,000 out-of-pocket after being allowed to travel to France without a passport and being turned away on his arrival.

Richard Lancaster, pictured, who has only recently moved to the island from the UK, claims he was told by Condor that he could travel to St Malo with just his driving licence as identification.

Mr Lancaster, who is working as an operations manager, said he had business meetings planned in France for a new venture he was launching and had also planned to see family. He said the whole ordeal had cost him around £2,000 and he would be planning legal action against Condor if they did not offer him the adequate compensation.

Condor has confirmed they had been in dialogue with the passenger over his complaint and a refund had been offered.

The upset passenger, who said he now lives in St Peter Port after moving from Scarborough, insisted he has been left considerably out of pocket – above the ticket price.

He said he was furious about the wasted trip and money and the failure in Guernsey to spot the issue.

'I'm not happy with the procedures,' he said.

'Under no circumstances should I have been allowed to board like this. I have slipped through the system.'
