AUTHORITIES were out in force yesterday to implement new traffic measures at Vale School as children returned for the first day of term.

Parents had mixed views on the system, with some describing the pick-up and drop-off as 'chaotic' while others said it was a 'vast improvement'.

But many have said the real test will come next week when roughly 60 Reception children start.

Measures were put in place as the busy school increased its intake by 70, taking the total to around 500 following the closure of St Sampson's Infants.

A number of yellow lines have been painted around the Vale school's narrow lanes to prevent parents stopping to let their children out.

No waiting signs were also installed and drivers could no longer turn right out of the Methodist Church car park, which caused some confusion in the morning.
