The department is seeking expressions of interest from contractors to replace the schools, which were opened in 1975, scheduled to begin in April.

The decision to replace the schools, which were designed to last 25 years, should be taken by the end of the year. Deputy Sillars said the work was long overdue as well as desperately needed.

The building needed to be brought up to 21st century standards to give the students the same as those who attended other recently rebuilt schools in the island.
