New bus strike threat as drivers 'at breaking point'
BUS drivers have threatened to strike for the third time under CT Plus after reaching 'breaking point', it was revealed yesterday.
Around 25 drivers met on Sunday night and now more than 30 have signed a letter to the operator demanding changes be made to their 'unhealthy' and 'dangerous' duties.
The Guernsey Press was told some shifts last up to 14 hours with only one break and drivers fear their extreme tiredness is putting the public in danger with a 'five-tonne killing machine'.
It was also claimed some drivers have even slept at the back of the bus on lunch breaks and barely have time for toilet breaks, causing health issues.
CT Plus yesterday said it recognised that certain aspects of the new rotas, brought about by changes in school pick-up times, might not be popular with some drivers.
However, it said it had discussed issues with Unite union officials last week and agreed changes were required.
