'There IS a demand for PEH hydrotherapy pool'

ACCESS to the hospital's hydrotherapy pool was so restricted islanders were virtually blocked from treatment, according to users.

Judy Hayman and Jean Le Page are disappointed that the pool at Princess Elizabeth Hospital has been permanently closed as they felt demand for it was huge.

But access to the pool was so limited 'no wonder nobody was using it'.

Health and Social Services said the board approved the permanent closure of the hydrotherapy pool last year based on its 'relatively low levels of use and the potential revenue saving to the department'.

It said the number of patients who were referred for hydrotherapy treatment had reduced from 94 new referrals in 2011 to 40 during the course of 2012.

The department's decision was hard for Mrs Hayman to accept. 'Health is saying there is no demand, but you try and use it and can't get access to it. It is just such a waste to close it,' she said.
