STAFF at La Piette Hotel were shocked yesterday morning to find some of its tables and chairs had been thrown over the sea wall.

They were outraged by what they called a 'malicious attack'.

Replacing the items, some of which have been smashed, will cost hundreds of pounds.

It is not known how or when the furniture was taken across St George's Esplanade and shoved over the wall.

But manager Leoni Hunter suspected it happened in the early hours of the morning.

'I think it could be a group of drunk people who thought it would be a laugh or it's someone with a vendetta against the hotel.

'Our receptionist called me this morning to say some of the furniture was missing.

'When I found out it had been chucked over the sea wall – you do just feel angry,' she said.

'We don't normally get problems like this.'
