New Alderney airport engines will mean faster firefighting

ALDERNEY AIRPORT Fire Service has taken delivery of two brand new fire appliances with a total value of more than half a million pounds.

The two five-man Angloco appliances replace three vehicles which had been in service for 14 years and for which the crew were struggling to find parts.

Four years in the pipeline, their arrival coincides with the transition from Trislanders to 19-seater Dornier 228s, which require the airport to house larger, faster firefighting resources in order to comply with its Civil Aviation Authority licence.

Each appliance, which was shipped from North Yorkshire, can carry twice the amount of water that its predecessor could and carry more crew – which is why only two of them are needed.

They will be cheaper to run than former GMC models and should last for between 15 and 20 years.
