Chief minister 'too hasty' in choosing his HSSD candidate

CHIEF minister Jonathan Le Tocq has been attacked for the way he 'hastily' declared his preferred man to be the next Health minister without asking fellow politicians to show their interest in the hotseat.

Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher, deputy Treasury minister, said absolutely no time or consideration was given to consult fellow colleagues over the soon-to-be vacant ministerial position, which became available after Deputy Mark Dorey and his HSSD board stood down as a result of the death of a newborn baby.

Deputy Le Tocq put forward the current Public Services minister Paul Luxon as his preferred candidate on Saturday, just a day after the HSSD board announced they would resign and two days ahead of a Policy Council meeting.

Deputy Kuttelwascher, pictured, said the situation could have been handled differently, although admitted that a challenge could still come from the floor for the HSSD post. Other deputies also labelled it an unwise approach and one that could discourage other candidates.
