Red Rolls is Lt-Governor's new car

A RED Rolls-Royce is to replace the iconic black Daimler as the Lt-Governor's official car.

The Daimler has been in service since 1980 as the ceremonial car.

The replacement 1996 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit III is expected to make its first official outing for the Remembrance Sunday service.

A Lt-Governor's spokesman said it was important to have an official car, to use on occasions such as Liberation Day, States meetings and parades.

It is also used to transport guests, like members of the Royal Family, ministers and ambassadors around when they visit the island.

'The current Daimler has been in service for 24 years, since new, and was due for replacement in the next few years,' the spokesman said.

'The model ceased production in 1992, so it was very unlikely that it would be replaced by another DS420.

'An unplanned opportunity arose to acquire a suitable, British-built limousine, which was judged to offer good value as a replacement – both to buy and to run.'
