Heart op Jake hoping to be home for his Onesie Walk

AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy with a life-limiting heart condition is anxious about having open-heart surgery tomorrow  for the fourth time.

But helping Jake Guy, pictured, through the surgery will be the knowledge that his charity has, and continues to, support other young sufferers and their parents.

The Hautes Capelles Primary student was born with a significant cardiac defect.

His heartbeat is entirely dependent on a pacemaker and he had to spend six weeks in hospital last year after developing septicemia and endocarditis – inflammation of the inner lining of the heart chambers and heart valves.

In order to keep him alive surgeons in Southampton will once again perform open-heart surgery this week.

Depending on when he is fit to return to the island, it could mean Jake misses the annual Onesie Walk, which he set up last year to raise money for his charity, Jake's Heartfelt Funds.

His mother Holly was also feeling nervous ahead of the operation, which could take more than six hours.

'I think Jake is a bit worried about it and as he's got older he has become more aware of it and has his own opinions.

'He wants to be normal but the hard thing is, he isn't, and that is quite frustrating for him,' she said.
