Saturday was the first day fireworks were sold and according to a police spokesman, it did not take long for problems to begin.

He said that four different complaints were logged about the same fireworks at a private party in the Vale.

'Four different complaints were logged on Saturday night about the same fireworks. Fireworks were in the Vale area and it was an organised private party. The organiser was spoken with and advised that the display was due to finish at about 7.30pm. Callers were advised as such,' said the spokesman.

A multi-agency fireworks committee meets – including representatives from the Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service, retailers, display organisers, the GSPCA, Health and Safety Executive, police and St John Ambulance and Rescue – meets every year to discuss concerns and collaborate on the best way forward.

They requested that fireworks be let off on the evenings of 5, 7 and 8 November and for users to be courteous to neighbours.
