Air links service level agreement welcomed

ALDERNEY States members welcomed the likely introduction of a service level agreement on air transport links in and out of the airport, set to form one of the planks of the States of Guernsey's response to January's requete.

The Policy Council has put forward a string of recommendations in the December Billet in the wake of a requete submitted to the States putting the case for funding for a longer, wider runway which could accommodate planes with up to 42 seats.

The report concluded that it did not see any immediate benefits to expanding the island's air capabilities and did not recommend money being invested in the project as things stood.

But Alderney representatives Louis Jean and Neil Harvey said they were positive about what could come out of it.

'Although the report does not recommend as much as I would have liked, the door is left open for expanding the runway should a case which shows economic viability be made in the future,' said Mr Jean.

He said he would like to see Alderney politicians get behind his idea to see some of the proceeds of gambling licences go towards expanding the airport, in a joint project with Guernsey.
