La Sablonnerie Hotel owner Elizabeth Perree was 'sad' and 'disappointed' that the company, a subsidiary of Sir Frederick and Sir David Barclay's Sark Estate Management, had decided to shut up shop for 2015 and the 'foreseeable future after that'.

She had experienced a great summer, she said.

'It is very sad because plenty of lovely guests want to come and stay in their beautiful hotels,' she said.

'It's a great disappointment. I don't think it's good for Sark's economy.

'But I don't understand why they are doing it because Sark is a lovely place and there are lots of people coming over.

'We've always had good summers – we're very fortunate as Sark is such a lovely place. There's always been demand. We just have to hope that they change their minds.'
