Deputies are expected to reflect in wake of protest

IMPRESSED with the amount of engagement at a mass demonstration, deputies are now expected to reflect on all the concerns raised.

The Enough is Enough protest saw islanders express their feelings over issues including a goods and service tax, width and emissions taxes on vehicles and paid parking. It also gave deputies a chance to address concerns and misconceptions.

Deputy Al Brouard, who is leading a requete to delay the introduction of paid parking, said: 'It was very pleasing to see islanders show their concerns and for me as someone who has always been against paid parking, it was nice to see an almost unanimous vote of hands from those who are also against it.

'Hopefully some of my colleagues will be able to reflect on their position and decide whether or not they feel paid parking is worthwhile in Guernsey.'

Health and Social Services minister Paul Luxon felt the protest was an excellent way for people to have their voice heard.

'When a group of people come together and share their feelings, as a deputy you have got to take that into account,' he said.
