Deputy Yvonne Burford, pictured, argued the principles of the tax were sound but said the amendment would address many of the issues that came out of the Enough is Enough demonstration.

'We have been listening carefully and will be bringing an amendment to the proposals to address many of the concerns that people have raised.'

Board members were also supportive of an amendment, which has yet to be drafted.

Meanwhile, some States members yesterday hinted that they could turn their back on the width and emissions tax.
