Lucy Robins, 11, pictured, pressed the button for the lights in front of her parents, island dignitaries, politicians and Rotary Tree of Joy supporters yesterday (Thurs 27) at a reception at Long Port offices, Royal Bank Place.

The Year 6 pupil has cystic fibrosis and undergoes physiotherapy several times a day as well as being on permanent medication for it. She was diagnosed with the genetic condition, which affects the lungs and digestive system, at five months old.

Lucy said she had been looking forward to the event.

'I felt very excited because I know not many people get to do it,' she said. 'My friends at school have been talking to me about it.'

Lucy was also planning on going to Town to watch Father Christmas switch on the main lights tomorrow.

The Tree of Joy on the Weighbridge roundabout is the tallest light tree in Europe and was first put up in 2005.

Santa is coming to Town tomorrow to help switch on the Christmas lights. Send us your pics via either Facebook, Twitter, or www.guernseypress.com/yourguernsey for a chance to win a £20 Le Friquet voucher.
