POLICY Council has reiterated warnings that it will go 'its preferred way' on pension reforms amid growing concern mediation proposals will be rejected.

Chief corporate resources officer Simon Elliott, pictured, was speaking after Unite regional officer Bob Lanning warned that the majority of the union's 1,000 members were likely to reject the latest proposals in the long-running pension row.

'This is not an offer from the employer. It is the outcome of an agreement between the six people in mediation,' said Mr Elliott.

'The Policy Council will only support the mediated proposal if the employees accept it because they wish to achieve a negotiated settlement. However, if the employees do reject it the proposal cannot stand, and so the employer will move forward with its preferred position.'
