The heated final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition saw teenage competitors challenged to serve a three-course meal for two people for under £7.50 per head.

Grammar School student Louis Hollowell, 14, was the victor.

His winning meal was Thai crab spring rolls, Guernsey marinated steak and a panacotta with slow roasted plums.

'I am really pleased and surprised that I won,' he said. 'Time went so fast in the kitchen and it was tough but I was pleased with what I had made – although I did forget to put the gravy on at the end.

'I do love to cook and love cooking at home. This has definitely showed me that I don't want to do an office job when I'm older, I would consider being a chef.'
