Extra hours for postmen to cope with parcel influx

THOUSANDS of parcels were processed by Guernsey Post yesterday, extra deliveries were laid on and the parcel collection counter was opened specially.

The company has been working hard to cope with an early rise in Christmas parcels, with 3,300 sent out for delivery yesterday.

Parcel manager Steve Lawrence said originally the first Sunday opening for collections was due to be on 14 December, but it was brought forward to tackle the packed parcel room.

'Normally the second Thursday of the month is our busiest, but Friday was Amazon's biggest day ever, so we are gearing up for that to come in on Wednesday and Thursday,' he said.

The parcel room has been moved, so there is 50% more space. But despite that, the shelves are already almost full and Mr Lawrence said the company was keen for islanders to pick up their parcels as soon as possible.
