The men were hurt in an incident at the Airport Fire Service's St Saviour's training ground, but it is not known what went wrong.

Police would not disclose the nature of the injuries nor the officers' ranks, due to a 'duty of care' to them, but said one had been discharged from hospital yesterday afternoon, while the other was still receiving treatment.

The Ambulance and Rescue Service, which took the two men to Accident and Emergency, would not comment, stating that the police would provide all details to the media. Two senior police officers attended the incident scene shortly after and opened first-aid kits could be seen in the Airport Fire Service's reception area.

A police spokesman confirmed that officers were carrying out enquiries to find out what had happened.

The Health and Safety Executive had also been notified and was investigating the incident, he said.

Public order training, which includes methods of how to operate in riot

situations, is carried out by a small group of specially-trained officers so that Guernsey Police can meet the requirements of a 'mutual aid' agreement it shares with other areas.
